Terminus, Vancouver Island: by Aspect Structural Engineers

Solving a mass timber challenge in a seismic region.

This is the title of the newest print publication from Aspect Structural Engineers. Terminus, now complete, is a five-storey commercial building featuring a novel steel buckling-restrained brace (BRB) lateral system framed within its mass timber superstructure.

This was one of the last projects that Aspect would provide structural engineering services for in the pre-pandemic landscape. In early 2020, as the scale and severity of the Covid-19 pandemic was becoming clear around the world. Aspect Structural Engineers of Vancouver, Canada was coordinating the final details for this exciting new mass timber building.

Read here about the motivation, innovation, carbon benefits, design and detailing, fabrication and erection of one of Design Build Services most carefully thought out buildings. The first complete building at District 56.
